
The Cathedral of St. Lazarus is in the Romanesque style which predates Gothic by a hundred years or so. St. Lazarus was adorned by the sculptor, Gislebertus, who is thought to be one of the greatest sculptors of that era. Little is known about him except that he came to Autun around 1125 and worked for 10 years on the cathedral's relief decorations which were the supreme effort of his life.
